.... the C64 game that has impacted on you the most.
Mine I think was Way of the Exploding fist. I was totally amazed by the graphics and gameplay and still play it today! ................ tell a lie, ........ yesterday! :-)
It was a gameplay turning point for me and still feels as fresh as ever.

i think it'd probably have to be IO - not the most complex of blasters on the gameplay front (technically, it's a very nice piece of work) but beautifully executed and the difficulty level is geared well so it's frustrating without quite being too bitchy. It's very like Ikaruga in that respect...

PENGUIN TOWERS
Playing the demo on CF was awesome, then it was a shame it was never released. Working on the Ewen Gillies version was great fun, even if all I got was a different approach to music-making (editing in an assembler rather than an editor) and some great tunes...
Running it a close second was another Bomberman clone, BOMB MANIA. At the Micro Mart fair 2002 in Birmingham, there was myself, my brother Chris, Allan Bairstow of Commodore Scene and Wayne Womersley all playing at the same time. What a blast!

Bug Bomber.... a very very playable bomberman clone..... with a lot of twists.
A bit repetitive after a while, but very good fun... and a workable 4 player mode.
I dunno... but its sad this game never got full recognition.... Luckily got a full copy from TMR's old work place a long time ago...

The most shocking? EASY! Tales of Arabian Night: Amazing and enveloping (<-- is the right word?) music. Ghostbuster: a milestone, great music and speech. Mission Impossible: great atmo, incredible speech, animation e gameplay.

I dunno... but its sad this game never got full recognition.... Luckily got a full copy from TMR's old work place a long time ago... It's intriguing this one, we all seem to like Bomberman clones, and yet the official game and/or Dynablaster never made it to the C64... I enjoyed Bugbomber for a few levels, but then it seemed to develop into a series of "lay eggs, launch hunter, kill enemy" manouevers that got very boring. Still, I never got to play it with 4 players at once...

I mainly played it with 2 player mode, so probably if i played it more in 1 player mode, I would have dropped it quicker .... As for Dynablaster.... have I added this one to the list?.... This was planned i'm almost certain... Boombastic Benny in the archives I think is quite an accurate looking version....

well, there'd be two or three which aren't my faves but still impacted (my fave C64 game is still HardBall though I wish it had a actual player names and leagues).
Ghosts N Goblins cos of its excellent music and graphics though a little tough later on. and Crazy Comets/Monty On The Run for their amazing music. I can load those up and just leave the music playing, even now.

The only reason why I purchased the original of Knucklebusters was cos of the Hubbard music. I remember paying £10.99 for it from John Menzies!
What a fakin ripp-off!

The worst bit is that the game had potential, it just wasn't realised - too damned hard and too damned fast...

The ZZAP! review of Knucklebusters was very harsh, but right - the difficulty level means you don't play it for long. Still, the music is a CLASSIC.
